January 10, 2017

Juliya Grigoryan was a Graduate Scholar in 2015 when she interned for the U.S. Tax Court.

Where are you from?
Bowling Green, KY.

Where did you go to school? What did you study?

University of Kentucky College of Law.

What was the best part of your internship?

The best part of my internship was being exposed to material I had never before encountered. It encouraged me to work independently and research complex subject matters. I was able to explore my interest in tax while working with incredibly talented people.

What lessons did you learn that you would like to pass on to future interns?

I would recommend getting to know as many people as you can. D.C. is unique in that almost everyone you meet is not a native. There are so many interesting people in this town and their stories are worth hearing.

What are you doing now?

In fall of 2016, I passed the New York Bar and moved to D.C.  I hope to use the advocacy skills I learned in law school to pursue a meaningful legal career.

What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?

My goal is to be a successful attorney where I can provide outstanding legal counsel to clients, while also giving back to the community in the form of pro bono and volunteer work.

What is your favorite book and what are you reading now?

I most recently read The Cider House Rules. I would definitely recommend it as both a fascinating story and as an informational read in juxtaposition with today’s abortion laws.

Tell us a fun fact!

I have an English Cocker Spaniel named Arev who I bought while in Armenia on a volunteer trip.gabby-arev-and-i
